What is SASH?

Stockport Action for Supported Housing is a parent led group working in partnership with Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council and other agencies to provide supported living for adults with learning disabilities in the Stockport area.

Our aim is to maximise social inclusion, life choices and independence for people with learning disabilities and their carers.

SASH provides solutions based on the needs and wishes of the individual requiring support. For example, a person might be supported in their current home, or move to their own home, supported by paid staff.

SASH gives family members the opportunity to stay involved with their relation's life and be involved in the ongoing planning, alongside paid staff.

SASH offers the opportunity to plan for the future rather than waiting for a crisis situation to arise.

What does SASH believe?

People with learning disabilities have the right to:

  • be treated with dignity and respect.
  • have encouragement and support to express their individual needs wants and aspirations
  • equality of opportunity.
  • have the opportunity to make their own life choices
  • be valued in their own right, not just as contributors
  • be consulted on matters which significantly effect their lives
  • be involved in decisions which significantly effect their lives
  • have the opportunity to develop their potential
  • confidentiality
